Sub For Santa

December 23, 2010

It is Christmas and my children were wondering why we hadn't done any Sub-For-Santa families this year. I had been so busy with Carlee coming home that I hadn't signed up for any families to help this year. This is a highlight for my children and it is the real meaning of Christmas for us, so I arranged to help three families. We had 9 children that we were helping and today was the day to get it all done.

I took the girls with me and we picked up two outfits, two toys and a book for each of the children. Tom met us and we labeled the items and he took the girls to deliver them in Springville and Payson. The parents were so touched and had written us a thankyou note and one family sent treats home with them. It is the only Christmas they would be receiving, so it made us feel really good that we were able to help.

When we got home, Tom found out about some families in our apartments that needed Christmas also, so we were able to help them out. We had a Christmas tree down in storage, so it was all loaded up and Tom had it put in their apartments while they were out with us getting Christmas. It is such a joy to help families who would not be having any Christmas otherwise.

The morning of the December 24th, we talked to our friend Christi, who is a service missionary. She was on her porch just trying to figure out how to help some of her families that were not having Christmas and that is when Tom called and asked if there were any families we could help. So off Tom, Brandon and Brittany went and met these parents at the store and got them all Christmas presents and food for their families.

This is truly a gift to be able to help others. This is just the most wonderful feeling and an exceptional way to teach our children about serving others.
